Lower body lifts, like extended abdominoplasties are procedures often used to tighten up the abdominal area of patients following massive weight loss. Unlike abdominoplasties, the lower body lift surgery also targets the buttocks and thighs. This is a circumferential surgery whereby an incision is made around the entire waistline. Excess skin and fat is removed, a liposuction is sometimes performed, and the remaining skin is reattached, thus tightening and smoothing the waistline, buttocks, and upper thighs.

In some cases, a total body lift can be done, which is simply a combination of the upper and lower body lift procedures.

How Soon After Weight Loss Can a Lower Body Lift Be Performed?

It’s important to note that a body lift is not intended as a replacement for exercise and a healthy diet. Each case is different, but a patient who has maintained a steady weight for three months to one year after massive weight loss can be eligible for body lift surgery.
