Am I a Good Candidate for Arm Lift Surgery?

A common concern expressed by our patients is the saggy appearance of their upper arms, and whether or not arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, would be a good solution. Both men and women have shared frustrations with the excessive skin on their upper arms, even despite following a healthy diet and committing to a workout regimen.

Fortunately, body contouring has come a long way and arm lift surgeries are increasingly common, thanks to their overall effectiveness in improving the appearance and tone of the upper arm area.

Factors Leading to Arm Lift Surgery

The three main reasons most men and women consider arm lift surgery stem from the aging process, genetics, and weight gain or loss. All three of these factors can contribute to skin laxity, or looseness, areas of sagging or hanging skin, which some women describe as their “bat wings.”

Although exercise is an important component of a healthy lifestyle, it often can’t do much to tighten or reduce the appearance of sagging skin. This is partly because the skin on the upper arm is very thin and has lower levels of elastin, making it harder for skin to shrink back after weight loss, for example.

What Happens During an Arm Lift Surgery?

In order to remove excess skin and fat from your upper arm area, an incision is made on the underside of your upper arm in order to assess the amount of fat stored beneath. In some cases, liposuction might be required in order to address any areas of significant fat build up. The whole procedure helps reestablish a balanced proportion between your upper and lower arm, resulting in a younger, more toned appearance, overall.

Am I a Good Candidate for Arm Lift Surgery?

Good candidates for arm lift surgery are men and women who are healthy and at healthy weight levels. This simple procedure can help you achieve a smoother appearance in your upper arms that will make you look and feel more youthful, especially when summer rolls around and sleeves are optional.
