Liposuction also known as Lipo

If you are looking to lose extra weight permanently, you may be considering liposuction, also known as lipo or lipoplasty. Liposuction is a procedure that removes hard-to-lose fat that may be untouchable by diet and exercise. Liposuction can be used almost anywhere on the body including the hips, stomach, thighs, buttocks, back, chest, arms, or even sometimes even the chin to remove unwanted deposits of fat.

Liposuction can be performed more than one way, but generally is performed by “suctioning” away fat from the areas where fat is no longer desired. Tumescent liposuction can be performed by injecting a sterile solution into the area where the fat is to be removed, which can help with the suctioning and decrease blood loss and pain. Other methods include ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) or laser-assisted liposuction.

A lipo procedure is considered a body shape altering procedure, and results may not be as dramatic as you may expect. Liposuction results are often subtle, and can help you remove unwanted pockets of fat such as “muffin tops”, “love handles”, or “saddlebags”.

Remove Hard-to-Lose Fat

Liposuction is not a substitute for healthy living, and is not considered a weight loss tool for obesity. Rather, it’s a way to shed fat in certain areas after all methods of dieting and exercise have been exhausted. Liposuctions is suggested for patients who are already on a healthy course of diet and exercise, but still can’t seem to get rid of fat in problematic areas. Individuals who choose liposuction and do not lead a healthy lifestyle after a liposuction procedure can have fat return.

Liposuction will not remove cellulite, which is when the fat beneath your skin appears to look like “cottage cheese”. Liposuction will only remove pockets of fat, but may not alter the appearance of the fat itself.

Ideal liposuction candidates will:

  • Be within 30% of their ideal weight
  • Have firm and elastic skin
  • Not currently smoke

Liposuction is not recommended for individuals with a history of heart disease, diabetes, a weak immune system, or trouble with blood flow.

    Treating Gynecomastia

Liposuction can also be used to treat gynecomastia, a condition that gives men abnormally large breasts. For more information about treating gynecomastia, please check out our gynecomastia treatment page.

Like with any surgery, liposuction does come with risks. Those risks can include scarring, numbness, infection, or even an undesirable look such as lumpiness or dents if too much fat is removed.

If you believe you may be a good candidate for liposuction, schedule your consultation with us today! Dr. Sterling can discuss with you whether liposuction would be the best solution to give you the results you desire and the body you deserve.

I am so thrilled with the result from my tummy tuck and liposuction in late January

First, I want to apologize for taking so long to write this testimonial. Life is so busy, and I should have taken the time sooner to thank you for my new figure.

I am so thrilled with the result from my tummy tuck and liposuction in late January. I have a new confidence and lease on life, and I’m taking on more challenges physically and fitness wise. Before, nothing I did gave me the results I wanted. So, I just stopped trying and didn’t care about my diet. After three children via C-section, it seemed my belly was hopeless.

Now, for the first time in eight years, I actually look through the Victoria’s Secret bikini catalog shopping, instead of self-disgust. I feel better, I look better and I am happier. Its funny what a simple change can make in your overall happiness, when as a person, working hard for a good figure and not getting it can get you so down.

I remarked to a friend that I feel like I felt 15 years ago, self-confidence wise.

The recovery, while not a breeze, was not as difficult as I thought it would be and I would do this over again in a heartbeat.

Dr. Sterling seems to know exactly what to do to get realistic results that meet a patient’s goals. I was thrilled with the results and the costs were reasonable. The staff at the Elliott One Day Surgery Center was wonderful.

If you are considering this procedure, I would recommend Dr. Sterling for many reasons, and have already for several friends that are considering it in the next few years.

    In-Office Liposuction

In-office liposuction with Dr. John Reilly is very similar to liposuction done in a hospital setting, but without the expense and risks of general anesthesia. Before the surgery, Dr. Reilly will meet with you for a consultation to discuss your goals and perform an exam to make sure this procedure is right for you. If in-office lipo is not the best way to address your concerns, he'll suggest other options--we want you to get the best results possible!

On the day of the procedure, you’ll be prescribed anti-anxiety medications to help you relax (so you'll need a ride!). Our staff is trained to be sure your experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible from the moment you enter our office, until the end of your procedure. Dr. Reilly will make sure you feel safe and relaxed during the procedure by injecting local anesthesia into the areas to be treated. Soft lighting and music help make the process calm and comfortable. Once you are feeling comfortable, Dr. Reilly will carefully remove fat from the areas you targeted. Any fat cells he removes will not return. Once the procedure is complete, your results will be immediate and will improve over the following weeks.

Before you go home, Dr. Reilly will make sure you understand how to take care of yourself after the procedure and will be available by phone for any questions that may arise. You will be accompanied home by your friend or family member with detailed instructions and pain medication if needed.
